Sommario

This paper proposes a method to assess the seismic resilience of steel-concrete composite bridges considering near fault earthquakes. The probabilistic seismic hazard disaggregation analysis is used to define a correction factor representing the proportion of the probability of occurrence of the near-fault impulsive, non-pulse-like and far-field earthquakes at a given seismic intensity level to the total probability of occurrence of all earthquakes. The recovery functions are modified using this factor to estimate the recovery processes after each type of earthquake. Accordingly, the vulnerability of a typical steel-concrete composite bridge under near fault and far field earthquakes is analyzed within the EU SEQBRI project. By deriving seismic hazard and vulnerability functions, the seismic risk for each type of earthquake is estimated and the modified functionality function is derived, and the seismic resilience assessment is carried out. The seismic resilience assessment without considering the earthquake type is also performed for comparison. The result shows that the seismic resilience of bridges in near fault earthquake scenarios for low intensity earthquakes can be enhanced by improving the structural recovery efficiency for light and moderate damage states
