From territorial to local seismic monitoring of existing bridges

Sommario
Seismic events may have relevant impacts on infrastructures. Although these kinds of events are currently not predictable, road managers have the necessity of immediately assess the consequences of such events on their bridges, so that possible critical situations can be identified and managed. In this perspective, this paper presents how multi-level structural health monitoring can be adopted to derive such information in real-time mode. Indeed, a preliminary estimation of the pick ground acceleration at bridge location can be done by acceleration data registered from national accelerometric stations (territorial level), for a first evaluation of the effects on the structure. Then, this can be directly correlated with the data from the monitoring system as installed on the bridge (local level), to recognize changes on the usual structure response.
