Sommario

The use of steel plates for retrofitting existing masonry structures represents a promising solution to enhance their seismic performance. However, the brittle behavior and high initial stiffness of masonry walls may promote early buckling in the retrofitting elements, due to the intrinsically low shear buckling resistance of thin steel plates. This study investigates the shear elastic buckling behavior of different steel plate configurations to identify the most effective solutions for seismic retrofitting applications. A Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was conducted to evaluate the buckling response of various plate geometries and boundary conditions. The corresponding shear buckling coefficients were computed to assess their structural stability and suitability for practical implementation. The outcomes of this research contribute to the development of more efficient and resilient retrofitting systems for vulnerable masonry buildings.
