Sommario

A framework for life-cycle seismic risk and reliability analysis of concrete bridges under chloride-induced corrosion is presented. The effects of corrosion on seismic performance are investigated over time by taking into account the chloride diffusion process and consequent corrosion initiation and damage propagation affecting both reinforcing steel bars and surrounding concrete. Multiple-stripe non-linear dynamic analyses under spectrum compatible ground motions are conducted for different performance levels to assess the time-variant failure rate and related life-cycle seismic risk and reliability of the investigated bridges. The proposed approach is applied to life-cycle seismic risk and reliability analysis of an existing concrete bridge ideally placed at three reference sites in Italy characterized by low, moderate, and high seismic hazard.
