Sommario
The design and future perspective of the new International Center for Research on Sciences and Techniques of Physical, Economic and Social Reconstruction known as the STRIC laboratory, whose construction work is currently ongoing, is the focus of this study. STRIC aims to become a reference strategical infrastructure for Italy and Europe to enhance the preparedness of communities towards seismic risk and other natural hazards and the post-event reconstruction. Thanks to a public fundings from the Italian Government the STRIC laboratory has been designed to have a significant flexibility. In its final configuration STRIC will be characterized by a pit that hosts two 6-DOFs shake-tables, one fixed and the other movable up to a distance of 30 m, each of which can carry a payload of 28 tons. This configuration gives the chance to perform, and it is not limited to, seismic tests on structure and infrastructural components, tests on electrical systems, soil-structure-interaction tests, and even hybrid simulations. The laboratory will also be equipped with a movable reaction wall that can be used alone and in combination with the movable shake-table. The STRIC location, near the municipality of Camerino has been chosen due to the willingness of enhance the attractiveness of the inner areas severely stricken by the recent 2016 Central Italy seismic sequence to attract researchers and industrial partnerships. The STRIC facility will be managed by public institutions and by all the Universities belonging to the four regions that suffered the impact of the 2016 seismic sequence, namely Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche and Umbria.
