Several coastal communities accross the globe are exposed to tsunami and coastal flooding events, often triggered by other hazards such as earyhquakes or submarine volcanos. The present paper presents  preliminary results of the MITICO (MItigation of Tsunami Impact on COastal regions) project, focusing on the relavnt phases for tsunami vulnerability, damage and loss assessment at regional scale. A state of the art on different mitigation strategies commonly adopted for the tsunami risk reduction is presented, and a methodology for accounting for such measures in a tsunami risk assessment framework is proposed.
