In this paper, the main results of a large-scale seismic vulnerability analysis, carried out through an analytical method implemented on representative masonry buildings of Abruzzo, are presented. The considered archetype buildings have been defined through information extracted from the CARTIS form, developed by the Italian Plinius Study Centre and used in order to form a reliable database on the main features of Italian buildings. The main features of masonry buildings in Abruzzo deemed to be relevant for the structural/seismic behavior were selected from the database to constitute the archetypes and to carry out large scale analysis via linear and non linear kinematic analyses, able to capture all the damage grades provoked by local mechanisms. The main outcomes were gathered and represented in terms of fragility curves. These outcomes are discussed highlighting the most recurrent deficiencies of the built environment and to suggest possible mitigation policies to be adopted at the regional scale.
