Sommario
The paper analyses and compares the seismic performances of two series of Dual conventional concentric inverted V braced frames (Dual inverted V-CBFs) and eccentrically braced frames (Dual EBFs) designed according to EN 1998-1. High-strength steel was used for non-dissipative members to enhance global seismic performance of the structures by constraining plastic deformations to dissipative zones (the braces for Dual inverted V-CBFs and the links for Dual EBFs) and reducing permanent drifts of the structure. Eight and sixteen story building frames are analysed using the nonlinear static method and nonlinear dynamic analyses. Plastic deformations demands and plastic mechanisms are displayed and appropriate values for overstrength factor Ω are presented and suggestions for reduction factor q are made.
